Birds and color

Question :

Will the color of the birdhouse affect what birdhouse it will go to?
Do bird see in color?
Do squirrels see in color?
Are squirrels attracted to colors?

Hypothesis:

I think that the birds will go to the birdhouse that has a brighter color because they can see it better.

Procedures:

  1. I will put up three bird house that are all different colors but the same model
  2. I measure how much the bird feeders can hold in cups and mark off where each cup ends and starts
  3. I put them outside in three different locations that are fairly close together
  4. I check each day and see how much they have eaten
  5. After a week I will take them down and compare the results and put them in a graph

Info:

Not only do birds see in color, they see ultra-violet light too.
humans see 3 primary colors (and mixtures of them) such as red, green, blue. birds see this, AND ulta-violet that people cant' see.

Research suggests, that the squirrel has "dichromatic" color vision, and therefore can see in color.

I couldn't find any information about what color squirrels are attracted to.

Variables:

Independent: the independent variable is what kind birdseeds we use
dependent:where we put the birdfeeders

trouble that happened:

the squirrels smashed my bird feeders and scarred away all the birds
the birds did find my feeder before the squirrels did.
Conclusion:

my conclusion is that my experiment failed because squirrels attacked it but i found a person who did a project that was really close to mine.
